Abstract
The electricity sector is undergoing a significant transformation known as the Energy Transition, driven by decentralization, decarbonization, digitalization and electrification movements. Technological changes are extending across the entire grid, from generation to energy transmission and distribution. Renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power are being integrated into the generation mix by energy companies and consumers through microgrids. In this context, the potential of digital business models to facilitate transitions towards cleaner energy sources is highlighted, with particular emphasis on how such models can improve energy efficiency and flexibility on the demand side. Therefore, a relevant research gap demands additional investigation into how to structure new business models to drive the energy transition towards sustainability. Thus, the general objective of this research is to identify the main components necessary to structure digital business models in the context of the energy transition.Furthermore, we will develop and validate a standard framework with optional components that allow flexible arrangements aligned with digital business objectives in the context of the Energy Transition. Validation of the proposed framework will be carried out through the application of the Delphi method. Additionally, the framework will be tested with empirical data to define each component and its operational role precisely, enabling its replication in different contexts. Thus, as a proof of concept, a prototype will be developed using digital blockchain technology to manage energy systems. (AU)
