Abstract
The main objective of this research, as a result of the previous research, is to show what was the "style of thinking" behind the myriad of doctrines, schools and ideas about the criminal issue in Brazil in the passage from the Empire to the Republic. It is supported by a wide documentary base, especially the books of the main Brazilian criminologists of the period, and its methodological reference is historical criticism and content analysis.
