EMU: acquisition of flow cytometer for cell uptake assays

Abstract

The analytical power and versatility of current laser-based flow cytometry systems have strengthened relatively new fields of research, such as nanotechnology. Flow cytometry has proven to be a very powerful technique for investigating cellular events related to cancer, such as oxidative stress, autophagy, changes in the cell cycle and apoptosis. In the cellular uptake process, it can be used to demonstrate interactions between nanoparticles and cells, enabling advancements in the area of nanotoxicology. Therefore, the objective of this proposal is the acquisition of a flow cytometer for cellular utpake and and investigation of mechanism of death assays. The equipment will be installed in the Multi-User Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences - UNESP. The acquisition of this equipment will increase FCF's capacity for knowledge production, through the publication of data in journals with a selective editorial policy, the training of human resources and collaboration with other research institutions.
