"EMU: Acquisition of an Quantum GX3 Advanced Computerized Microtomography System for in vivo and ex-vivo studies"

Abstract

In the area of biomedical research, microcomputed tomography has been an essential tool for investigating the structure and composition of mineralized tissues, such as bones and teeth, also allowing the evaluation of soft tissues, such as the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. High-resolution images and three-dimensional reconstruction make it possible to map samples ex vivo or in vivo in great detail for quantitative measurements. The Quantum GX3 system offers the flexibility researchers need, providing the functionality to perform longitudinal studies, across a wide range of species, with fast, low-dose scanning and superior spatial resolution. The Quantum GX3 system requested in this proposal should replace similar equipment (but with outdated technology) already existing in the Multiuser Imaging laboratory at FOAr-UNESP. The equipment to be replaced is unusable and beyond repair. For 10 years, it served researchers from numerous institutions across the country, distributed across 8 states, as multi-user equipment. The proponent has extensive experience in coordinating multi-user laboratories (since 2012). (AU)
