Peptide Biodiversity: Advancing Human Health Through Nature's Pharmacological Treasures

Abstract

The Biodiversity2Drugs European Program aims to identify peptides in species from Terrestrial biodiversity organisms, an important class of natural products, unexplored for discovering nature's hits/leads, aiming for pharmacological prototypes, that could impact the pharmaceutical section in European Community and global competitiveness, through a sustainable and ecologically development. Brazil will be responsible for characterizing peptides isolated from plants species from the Cerrado and the Atlantic Forest, and also for carrying out the synthesis of peptides with pharmacological potential. It also aims to study the chemical mapping of these peptides, aiming to understand the interactions of this class of natural products and their ecological and evolutionary aspects. (AU)
