Abstract Covering about 11 % of the brazilian territory the caatinga biome, a ecosystem under extreme conditions, present an underexplored biodiversity. Therefore, this biome became a rich natural source of chemical diversity with ecological significance, and it is promising in the search for new drug prototypes. Among the biosynthesized natural products, cyclopeptides are found only in some taxa groups and constitute a class of compounds highlighted by their biological activities and few studies in our biodiversity. Thus, the investigation of this class of natural products can help to understand the function of cyclopeptides, currently of great relevance for the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, being a source of new models for bioprospection research in Brazil. The research line on peptides in NuBBE is recent, and chemical and biological obtained data, can contribute to the search for new peptides, which is involved in the development of bioproducts (drugs, cosmetics and biomaterials). Cancer and autoimmune diseases are patologies that affect a large amount of people worldwide and the drugs available for the treatment face serious problems. Thus, the search for more effective and less toxic therapies became one of the challenges in scientific research. The aim of this project is to study the latex and other parts of caatinga plants, which belong to the genus Jatropha (Jatropha mollissima and Jatropha elliptica) and genus Euphorbia (Euphorbia tirucalli and comosa). In this project, besides Euphorbiaceae peptides, described in the literature by their biological and pharmacological properties, will be also discussed the Fabaceae peptides, which only recently were described in the literature. These have attracted the interest of research groups due to their new cosmetic and pharmacological properties still under investigation. The genus Senna (Senna lechriosperma) being a Fabaceae, was chosen to compose this project since brazilian senas have been investigated by NuBBE over 15 years. | |
