Abstract

The production of hops (Humulus Lupulus) in Brazil has been gaining great attention, because, in addition to demonstrating the viability of its production in our country, it is not need large tracts of land to obtain a good financial return, fitting perfectly with an alternative cultivation for family farming in the country.Considering that 97% of the hops produced in the world is used for beer production, it is noteworthy that knowing the concentration of some characteristic compounds is essential for this producer, such as the concentration of ¿ acids. Thus, the correct analysis of the characteristics of the hops produced is essential.Hop analyses are mainly standardized by the American Society of Brewing Chemists (ASBC), which also sells a reference material for the execution of the tests. However, there are many new methods of analysis (more modern and efficient) being published, and in Brazil there is no certified reference material with the characteristics of the national hops or even a discussion about the other metrological tools that can be applied to provide reliability to the analysis of the national hops (such as method validation, uncertainty estimation, proficiency tests) in order to correctly characterize this product of great potential for agriculture in our country.
