Abstract

This project intends to develop methodology for the implantation of the new biokinetic models used in the estimation of the incorporation of radionuclides by the IOEs and the evaluation of the internal dose. The results obtained will allow the development of a protocol for the evaluation of occupational exposure in the SMNs, based on the references currently adopted by the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). General Objectives 1 - Develop and apply new protocols and procedures for the dosimetry of patients and the monitoring of workers exposed to radiation, to improve the quality of medical practices and reduce the risk inherent in exposures, propagating to society the benefits related to safety and radiation protection. 2 - Develop dosimetric systems and procedures for radiation dosimetry and instrumentation. This initiative aims to control the quality of health services, and updates the scientific level of research by promoting the development of new products needed in the face of new technologies. 3 - Apply new protocols and procedures for the dosimetry of patients and in the monitoring of workers exposed to radiation. The goal is to improve the quality of medical practices and reduce the risk inherent in exposures. Consequently, by spreading the benefits of radiation safety and protection to society. Specific Objectives 1 - Search and develop techniques and tools of quality control and dosimetry in radiological diagnostic procedures of digital mammography and breast tomosynthesis; 2 - Research and development of biokinetic models applied in internal dosimetry in vivo and in vitro and calculation of internal dose Expected Results This project intends to consolidate in the State of São Paulo its excellent performance in the research and development activities in radiation metrology applied to new medical practices in diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine. It is proposed that new dosimetry systems and new dosimetry methodologies be developed and implemented and disseminated to other laboratories and health services in the country, promoting both a technical and scientific impact and contributing to the safe use of ionizing radiation, protecting workers, patients and people.
