Abstract

The non-invasive analysis of cardiovascular autonomic modulation through heart rate variability (HRV) and blood pressure variability (BPV) represents an innovative and promising approach for assessing the integrity of the cardiovascular autonomic nervous system. It also serves as a critical tool for prescribing exercise training and predicting cardiovascular events and physical performance across diverse populations. Professor Raphael Martins de Abreu has established an academic career dedicated to the study of biological signals, with a specific focus on HRV and BPV in healthy, sedentary, and physically active individuals, as well as in those with cardiovascular diseases and associated risk factors. During his visit to the Exercise and Chronic Diseases Research Laboratory (ECDR) at Department of Physical Education (DPE) of School of Sciences of Universidade Estadual Paulista (FC-UNESP), under the coordination of Professor Emmanuel Gomes Ciolac, Professor Abreu will play a pivotal role in advancing innovative HRV and BPV analyses within projects funded by FAPESP (#2023/09829-0) and other funding agencies currently in progress at the laboratory and institution. The visit's program includes a theoretical and practical workshop designed to train ECDR and DPE researchers in the collection and analysis of biological signals, emphasizing their applications in health sciences, particularly for the evaluation, exercise training prescription, and prediction of clinical events. This event will be widely publicized to attract the participation of students, researchers, technicians, and faculty members from other UNESP`s units and other institutions with an interest in the subject matter. In addition, dedicated meetings will focus on methodological refinement, data analysis, result discussions, and the preparation of manuscripts associated with the projects linked to this initiative. Professor Raphael Martins de Abreu's visit will offer a singular opportunity to enrich the technical and scientific expertise of students while fostering interinstitutional collaborations. His contributions will further solidify the role of ECDR and DPE of FC-UNESP as leading references in research and innovation within the fields of health and exercise science. (AU)
