Abstract
This project aims to investigate the new phase of the theory of history whose characteristic is an intense and unprecedent worldwide debate about historical time. The chronological span of the research extends from 1970, when narrativism emerges, to 2023, when the theory of history develops the so-called "post-phase" or "post-narrativism." These thematic and chronological references lie upon the guiding hypothesis that the overcoming or decline of the narrativist stage of the theory of history might yield new varieties of the concept of historical time. Consequently, the overall goal of this project is to collect abd classify concepts of historical time in the recent panorama of theory and philosophy of history to encourage and support further research. To accomplish this general goal, the first methodological procedure, in accordance with the first specific goal, aims at collecting concepts of historical time by digitally inspecting books, chapters, and articles from a wide digitalized database. The second methodological procedure, according to the second specific goal, aims at the classification of the concepts of historical time, based on the data collected (books, chapters, articles) by the first procedure. These goals will be achieved through Digital Humanities resources. On the one hand, the support of digital resources presents the epistemological challenge of rethinking the boundaries between quantitative and qualitative research. On the other hand, it brings the methodological challenge of using digital resources for research in theory and philosophy of history, since it technically establishes the use of algorithm-based search engines and elaborates digital architecture aimed at organizing and hosting the database related to emerging concepts of historical time. Accordingly, this research proposal brings together an Academic Team (national and international) specialized in temporal studies, and a Technical Team made up of a historiographer, a librarian, a data science technician, and an administrative technician. The project's outputs will launch a platform for decisively inserts researchers and students into one of the most plentiful trends in the current history theory, contributing to the prolific community of Brazilian researchers in the theory of history and the history of historiography.
