Abstract

Mouth and salivary gland neoplasms are not frequent, and multi-center studies are fundamental for greater casuistics, and consequently better knowledge of these neoplasms. Immunohistochemistry is the technique most widely used in archived material, blocked in paraffin, contributing to better knowledge of the biology of tumors, being a fundamental in the histopathological diagnosis, as well as the in the determination of biological markers useful in treatment and prognosis. The objective of this project is the development of a multi-center study involving units in Brazil, Mexico, Guatemala and Peru, to determine clinical-pathological and immunohistochemical correlations in mouth neoplasms. In addition to spinocellular carcinoma of the mouth, we will study myxomas, lymphomas, melanomas, Kaposi sarcoma, keratocysts and tumors of the salivary glands. This study will permit the determination of the clinical and microscopic characteristics of these tumors in a significant sample for Latin America. (AU)
