Abstract

This research project aims to investigate the emergence, artistic affirmation, and professional establishment of a generation of musicians united in the city of São Paulo in the 1990s - a group who never received a label from journalism or cultural critics and is generally mentioned having as reference points their most famous names, such as composers like Chico César and Zeca Baleiro and singers like Rita Beneditto and Ceumar. The project departs from the understanding that this group sought to develop an authorial work of popular music, aiming at a conciliation between the recent aesthetic and procedural developments of Brazilian popular music (particularly those of the so-called "Vanguarda Paulista") and the insertion of their creations in the universe of pop music and the mainstream of the Brazilian popular music markets. It is a historiographic investigation that produces sources through oral history and utilizes sources found in public archives and personal archives. (AU)
