Abstract

This project will investigate light localization in one-dimensional disordered systems in the presence of nonlinear effects. Such effects arise due to the finite number of excitations in the system, i.e., the interactions between photons through scatterers. Using a mean-field approach, the student will investigate how such nonlinear effects affect the transmission and localization length, and how they couple the modes. The goal is to identify the effects that will arise due to the finite pumping intensity in a potential experiment, first using the simplest platform of one-dimensional systems. (AU)
