Abstract

This project aims to investigate light localization in one-dimensional disordered atomic systems in the presence of nonlinear effects. Such effects arise due to the finite number of excitations in the system, that is, the interactions between photons through atoms. Using a mean-field approach, the student will investigate how such nonlinear effects affect transmission and localization length, and how they couple the modes. The goal is to identify the effects due to finite pumping intensity that will arise in the experiment, using first the simplest platform of one-dimensional systems.
