Abstract

This research project aims to develop control techniques for the doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) used in wind generation systems. The focus is on the operation of the three-level neutral-point clamped (3L-NPC) multilevel converter connected to the DFIG rotor, ensuring active and reactive power regulation while improving the quality of the power injected into the electrical grid. To achieve this, vector control strategies and model predictive control (MPC) will be investigated, considering aspects such as PWM modulation, DC bus voltage balancing, and operation under adverse grid conditions. Other control techniques and optimization algorithms applied to adjust controllers, detection and/or operation during faults may also be studied. The methodological approach includes mathematical modeling, simulations, and experimental tests on a laboratory setup to ensure the practical feasibility of the proposed solutions. The expected outcomes of this project aim to contribute to technological advancements in wind generation system control, making them more efficient and reliable in the context of the global energy transition.
