Abstract
The Center aims to explore fundamental and applied sciences synergistically to develop novel materials showing high potential for the design and construction of devices and sensors addressing technological challenges associated with sustainability, climate change, precision agriculture, ecology, and health. To attain these objectives, the research team has been built with the concept of interdisciplinary research and a collaborative approach to integrate expertises from diverse scientific domains to identify and tailor novel materials having high potential for innovation. By combining original synthesis methods, advanced characterization techniques, theoretical approaches, computational simulations, quantum technologies and innovative device design and construction, we aim to pioneer breakthroughs in novel smart and quantum materials, fostering scientific excellence and technological development. We expect to achieve disruptive innovation in instrumentation, both in hardware and artificial intelligence-based tools, quantum technologies, biomedical devices, and signal processing, as well as plant bionics, exploring plant-pathogen interactions. In addition to research activities, we have planned to introduce strong action into education, diffusion, and information outreach to non-specialized public as a modern society must be aware of the serious challenges that humanity is confronting and how research and technology are essential to develop the tools to explore wisely the limited resources our planet can provide. The Center Innovation activities will be accelerated since the very beginning by the partnership with several companies working in related technologies, many of them Brazilian. Finally, all Center activities will be managed respecting diversity, equity, and inclusion goals and best practices. (AU)
