The trajectory of infant health as a measurement of social development: the case of the city of São Paulo over five decades

Abstract

This project is part of a research program aiming to assess and understand determinants of social development trends in a specific society based on the study of trends of health and nutrition indicators as well as economic, demographic and social policies variables. The present program of activities includes: the updating of the assessment of health and nutrition status of the underfive population living in the city of São Paulo (1995/96); the analysis of social equity regarding child health indicators and determinants; the study of trends taking advantage of three comparable surveys of the underfive population living in São Paulo city in 1974, 1985 and 1996.
