Abstract
Modern techniques in mass spectrometry (MS) will be applied in research projects associated with a variety of chemistry and biochemistry fields: (i) high resolution mass spectrometry and high energy tandem MS/MS, in detailed studies of dissociation mechanisms of different classes of organic compounds via EI e CI mass spectra, accurate mass measurements and MS/MS; (ii) sequential pentaquadrupole mass spectrometry MS/MS e MS/MS/MS, in gas-phase ion/molecule reaction studies and their analytical and synthetic applications, and in the measurement of thermochemical properties. Reactivity and mechanism studies of ions and ionic reaction intermediates; (iii) membrane introduction mass spectrometry (MIMS) and its derived techniques CT(Cryotrap)-MIMS, HS(headspace)-MIMS e T&R(trap&release)-MIMS, in the monitoring of volatile (VOCs) and semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) in water, soil, solid matrixes, oil, viscous liquids, foods, beverages, and biological fluids (plasma and urine); (iv) tandem mass spectrometry MS/MS (QQTOF) with Electrospray ionization (ESI-MS), in a variety of applications: chiral recognition, studies of supramolecular structures, gas-phase reactivity of organometalics, metal-activated reactivity of molecules, monitoring in aqueous media of transition metal-catalyzed coupling reactions, accurate mass measurements of thermolabile compounds, detection of intermediates in catalytic processes, monitoring of dye degradation in water, DNA analysis, ion/molecule reaction studies in the gas phase with ESI-generated ions and their analytical and synthetic applications, and in the measurement of thermochemical properties, analysis of chemicals of medical and pharmaceutical interest, and of their metabolites in biological fluids. The research projects will be performed using the mass spectrometers currently available at the UNICAMP MS laboratory: High resolution MS/MS Autospec EBE, pentaquadrupo, MIMS-Q and GCIMS, and an additional and versatile tandem MS/MS mass spectrometer, ESI-QTof, that will permit innovative application of MS techniques in a variety of chemical and biochemical fields.
