Abstract

This investigation of a qualitative nature, comes from the interchange women researchers from different fields and institutions: The Nursing Department of the Universidade Federal de São Paulo; the Sociology Department of the Faculty of Philosophy, Science and Languages of the Universidade Estadual Paulista; the Public Health Department and Mother-Child Nursing Department, the Nursing School of the Universidade de São Paulo (São Paulo and Ribeirão Preto respectively) to develop specific study about the abortion phenomenon. The set of problems linked to the phenomenon of abortion reported in this project leads us to affirm that the act of choice implies in an exercise of autonomy and deliberation and thus this investigation will try to understand the social and political conditions that women choose the interruption of pregnancy. This investigation has as an objective to produce a knowledge that can contribute to the evaluation and the political transformation involved in the questions of female health. It has the objective to know and analyse the trajectory of women from the moment they feel themselves pregnant until the act of abortion to understand the economic, political, social and moral conexions with the psychological and affective area. The theorical and methodology fundamental research was elaborated for a data bank about abortion in Latin America in the last ten years, and the making of semnars of experts. The data comes from the collected life-histories of women that are now being analyzed. (AU)
