Abstract

The quantification of absorption of CO2 by forests or other ecosystems is a complex task due to the diverse factors involved. On the other hand this quantificationis necessary, whether for the purposes of scientific studies of the balance of CO2, or for an economic motive such as that of clean development mechanisms. To assist in the solution to this problem this project proposes the development of a model for predicting liquid photosynthesis and stomatal conductance, at the level of leaf, in Hymenaea courbaril (jatobá). The techniques used for the modeling will be that of artificial neural networks. To achieve the proposed objective, monitoring will be undertaken of phytophysiological variables (liquid photosynthesis, stomatal conductance, transpiration, leaf temperature, leaf area and fluorescence) and environmental variables (active photosynthetic radiation, relative air humidity, air temperature and concentration of atmospheric CO2) throughout one year. With part of this data the modeling will be undertaken and with the other part evaluation of the model will be undertaken.
