Abstract

The aim of this work is the technological development of solid pharmaceutical forms from extractive solutions of stem barks and aerial parts of Hymenaea courbaril (jatobá), using the spouted bed drying. The leaves and barks of this vegetable specie have phenolic and terpene compounds to which are attributed antifungal, antibacterial and moluscicide properties. The phenolic compounds originate the tannins, polyphenolic substances with antioxidant, adstrigent and wound healing characteristics (FERNANDES, 2006). The study starts with the evaluation of the process for extraction of the bioactive compounds present in the vegetal drug. Different extraction methods (dynamic maceration, soxhlet, ultrasound) and various solvent systems (water, ethanol, ethanol:water, and so on) will be evaluated for the obtaining of the bioactive substances from jatobá. The quality of the extracts obtained will be evaluated by the quantification of chemical markers by spectrophotometry (total polyphenol and tannins), and also by antioxidant and antimicrobial assays. Selected extractive solutions will be submitted to the spouted bed drying. The drying behavior and product properties will be investigated as a function of the several operating conditions and drying aids. Antioxidant and antimicrobial assays will be carried out for the dried extract obtained in optimized conditions.
