Abstract

We aim at investigating different aspects of the epilepsies in humans ranging from electrophysiological and immunocitochemical investigations of surgically ressected tissue to the evalution of new therapeutic strategies to be used in the prophylaxis of post-lesional epilepsies. The proposed experiments will rely on magnetic resonance imaging and thus will attempt to provide correlations between the various different techniques. As probably the strongest Brazilian group doing electrophysiology and immunohistochemical evaluation of tissue sample form epilepsy patients we expect to provide an important support for other groups in the Cinapce program in our main areas of expertise. Given the foressen network activities envisioned by the Cinapce program we expect to be a major contributor of the program. (AU)
