Laboratory of fundamental psychopathology

Abstract

The Laboratory of Fundamental Psychopathology, created in february 1995, is part of the dept. Of Psychoanalysis of the Graduate Program on Clinical Psychology at the Catholic University of Sao Paulo - PUCSP. It is a permanent research group interested in developing psychoanalytic psychopathological research. Although this research is oriented toward treatment and prevention, it nonetheless has very specific objectives which coincide at a subject in common: approaching psychopathology from a theoretical-methodological point of view shared by all researches, namely, psychoanalysis. The research generally aims at developing a clinical comprehension of the psychopathological nature of human subjectivity in psychoanalytical terms. Ultimately, research aims at the construction of a deeper understanding of the nature of current psychic crises, and at the elaboration of therapeutic procedures to deal with them. Laboratory participation of a single researcher or group of researchers is subject to very clearly stipulated rules. Standing out among these, is the presentation of a written research project first discussed in private interviews with the laboratory director, to be afterwards submitted to the other researchers. Laboratory membership may be sought as follows: 1) researchers with individual projects; 2) groups of researchers interested in a common research project; 3) guest researchers and 4) correspondent researchers. Research development is systematically discussed and reported trhough working papers which also receive contributions from all other laboratory members. New and more advanced working papers are produced until a final product is obtained. The current team of laboratory researchers is composed by 6 ph.ds., 5 ph.ds. candidates, 7 m.a. candidates and 2 recently graduate students. They have already started to publish in specialized journals preliminary research results revealing that this on-going research constitutes an important contribution towards the treatment and the understanding of the human psyche. Starting march 1996, the laboratory is partially funded with an integrated research grant by CNPq. (AU)
