Abstract

This project presents two main research routes: evaluation of isobaric interferences in an interface with collisions/reactions device and development of analytical applications to food and fuel analysis. The performance of the interface will be critically evaluated taking into account not only the processes to overcome interferences, but also how this approach affects other analyses simultaneously determined. Adopting the best experimental conditions established, it will be developed procedures for determination of total contents and chemical forms of trace elements in foods. The speciation analysis will rely on proposal of soft procedures for sample preparation and separation steps in liquid chromatography. On the other hand, for fuel analysis it will be established procedures for fuels (ethanol, diesel, and biodiesel) and lubricating oils. These research topics will allow the formation of graduate and undergraduate students with a sound background to work trace analysis using ICP-MS. (AU)
