Abstract

The main goal of this project is the development of waveguide thin films for photonics. Organic-inorganic hybrid filmes well characterized in our group will be used as precursors in the preparation of thick (>1mm) inorganic deposits. Systems to be explored include silica, germania, hafnia, zirconia, tellurium oxide and tin oxide. In the methodology used up to know the construction of such thick deposits requires multiple deposition steps. In this project we propose the films preparation from just one deposit and rapid thermal annealing (RTA) process. Active and passive waveguides wil be prepared in different configurations (planar, channel). The budget includes the aquisition of chemicals and the set-up needed in order to characterize the waveguides. The possibility of technological development of devices for photonics, using different substrates as silicon, silica, crystals and glasses will be explored as a secondary goal (AU)
