Abstract

This proposal aims at creating and implementing new techniques and tools to discover the hidden knowledge in images of medical exams. Thus, the applicability of Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) will be enhanced leading to aid the diagnosis. The results of this proposal rely on four main research activities, as follows. (1) The basis provided by new techniques of image features extraction aiming to efficiently answer content and similarity queries. (2) The development and tuning of access methods well suited to process similarity queries on complex data. (3) The development of image mining techniques through association rules and attribute selection. (4) All the research activities will be supported by data and information visualization techniques aiming to help the user to tune to algorithms being developed in the other activities. (AU)
