Effects of sufentanil citrate infusion on isoflurane minimal alveolar concentration (MAC) in cats

Abstract

The aim of this study is to compare two different infusion rates of sufentanil citrate in minimum alveolar concentration (MAC) of isofluorane in felines. Eight health female cats weighing 3 Kg will be studied. The cats will be fasted by 12 hours before the study. The individual MAC of isofluorane and the MAC during the administration the sufentanil in two different rates of infusion (0,025 e 0,1µg.kg-1.min-1) will be determinate. After the determination of individual MAC, one of two proposed infusions rates will be administrate. The chosen rate will be select randomly , and the rate will be infuse during thirty minutes before the determination of new MACiso. All the animals in this study will be submit to same anesthetic protocol to determinate the MACs of isofluorane in the beginning and during the second infusion rate of sufentanil following the same method the administration the other rate. The infusions will be made with a minimum 7 days interval. The MAC will be determinate using the noxious stimulus. The values of ETiso, ETCO2, temperature, HR and SBP will be mark immediately before and after the MAC determination during the study. Venous blood samples will be collect for pH, PvCO2, PvO2 e HCO3 measurements in the same moments. In the end of each study the animals will receive Meloxicam (0,2 mg.kg- ) intramuscular. Statistical analysys will be performed by ANOVA, followed by Tukeys test (p 0.05). (AU)
