Astaxanthin production from microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis: implementation and evaluation

Abstract

The carotenoids are secondary natural pigments founded in plants and animals, has many vital functions in the organisms which produces it and which eat it. Between the mainly of them we can cite the astaxantina, which recently has receiving special importance due its high antioxidant potential, immune-stimulant, even be require by a diverse vital process of many animals. Although its be biosynthesizes only by primary organisms, as microalgae, yeast, fungus and bacteria's, are widely founded in others animals which eat these organisms directly or indirectly, as a example the shrimps, salmon, ornamental fishes, and even some birds, as the Flamingos. The development of the alternatives biotechnology strategies for the synthetic synthesis to obtain the astaxantina, with the objective to destines for the animal feeding, are constituted of the important factor of the nutritional aggregation which can increase productive parameters on the species production in captivity, generating higher productivity and profitability for the producer. The microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis have been cited as the mainly productive source of this carotenoid, presenting high viability when evaluated as a natural product to be produced in a commercial scale. In this way, this project seen produce this microalgae in massive scale, to feed zooplankton and later be introduced on the diet of the ornamental fish reproducers of Betta splendens. (AU)
