Identification of gametogonics and merogonics forms of Neospora caninum in dogs infected with embryonated eggs and chickens (Gallus gallus domesticus)

Abstract

The aim of this study is to identify and characterize the phases merogonics and gametogonics of the Neospora caninum in dogs, they are divided into two experiments. The first will consist of 6 dogs, three receive material chorio-allantoic previously infected with the NC-1 strain of N. caninum, and three receive chickens infected with the parasite. This first experiment aims to identify the best protocol with respect to elimination of oocysts and to stipulate the time of formation of meronts and gamonts in dogs. The faeces of these animals will be analyzed one week before and thirty days after infection, and serology by IF AT, every seven days. A second experiment with four dogs will be held, where they will be infected with the best protocol previously tested in experiment 1, where three dogs will be euthanized during the first week of infection in the period to be stipulated in the results of the experimental group 1. All dogs have their stools examined, a week before and until the day of euthanasia, in the dog that will not be euthanized their faeces collected and analyzed during 30 days of infection and weekly serology by IFAT. In animals euthanized, will be carried out molecular tests, serology, imprints, histopathology and immunohistochemical staining of various tissues. Is expected as a result of observing the presence of merogonics and gametogonics forms in dogs characterizing and elucidating the evolutionary forms not yet described in them. (AU)
