Abstract

Currently it has been reported that dietary restriction increases life expectancy by delaying or preventing various pathophysiological changes associated with aging, such as loss of muscle mass, diabetes mellitus, hypertension and cancer. More over, experimental studies have shown that dietary restriction may impair cardiac performance. The mechanisms responsible for depression of cardiac function in the model of food restriction remain poorly studied, several factors may contribute to dysfunction, for example, the transit of intracellular calcium. Recent research in our laboratory showed that dietary restriction of 50% promoted changes in myocardial calcium transit. However, these studies did not identify the proteins that regulate the transit of intracellular calcium that could cause dysfunction in the myocardium. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the role of proteins Serca 2 and Phospholamban in the myocardium of rats subjected to food restriction of 50%. (AU)
