Abstract

This work will provide preliminary information on the occurrence of the main poultry antibiotic residues used under Brazilian conditions. Therefore, it aims to quantify and monitor the presence of veterinary antibiotic residues (sulfonamides and /or fluoroquinolones) in poultry manure samples, and also to evaluate the dissipation kinetics of these residues in soil samples under chicken manure application. Moreover, the environmental fate (degradation, sorption and leaching in soil columns) of 14C-sulfadiazine will be assessed using radiometric techniques. Sulfadiazine is one of the most commonly used antibiotics and is potentially mobile in the environment, and in addition it is the only molecule available in the radiolabeled form to be purchased from the market. Antibiotic molecules were chosen due to their intense use in prophylactic and/or therapeutic treatments in modern poultry production and to their dissemination potential on the environment, having the potential to negatively affect terrestrian and aquatic organisms.
