Abstract

Many Institutes of Higher Education are establishing active teaching-learning methods, including Internet as a tool to access information and sharing educational resources, both in presence and distance methods. The Distance Education (EAD) is an organized and systematic method, which allows the students to develop the knowledge throughout the available material, followed and supervised by the teachers or the facilitators. The care to people with chronic wounds is part of the daily life of health professionals in any context of the nursing practice. The varicose, pressure and diabetic ulcers are the most frequent in adults and elderly people, and the treatment constitutes an important epidemiological problem which deserves special attention by the health professionals. Internationally, there are many publications with guidelines for the clinical practice orientating the treatment and prevention of chronic wounds. For the evaluation of the healing process (cicatrization), it is recommended the use of the guidelines that currently supports the treatment of chronic wounds of the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurses Society for dealing with pressure, varicose and neuropathic ulcers (WOCN, 2003; 2004 and 2005). Objectives. To identify and describe the educational and sociodemographic characteristics of nursing students; to identify the knowledge of nursing students about the topical therapy for care to patients with chronic wounds, before and after the use of the EAD module. Methodology. It is a quasi-experimental research, pre and post evaluation, educative intervention in the same group of subjects, without control group and with quantitative analysis. Third year students of the Nursing Bachelor Program and forth year students of the Nursing Diploma Program of a public University in the state of São Paulo will take part in the research, between February 2011 and December 2011. The project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the University of São Paulo at Ribeirao Preto College of Nursing. (AU)
