Abstract

This project has the general aim of indentifying the result of undergraduate nursing students´ learning about the theme "Nursing Care in Urinary Retention", under distance education teaching strategies (VLE - Virtual Learning Environment - and videoconference) and different methods of simulated teaching. This is a multicenter project, to be developed between the Coimbra College of Nursing (ESEnfC) and the University of São Paulo at Ribeirão Preto College of Nursing (EERP-USP), after approval of the Research Ethics Committees of the two institutions. This study is almost entirely non-experimental, exploratory and descriptive. Brazilian undergraduate nursing students, of the bachelor and diploma programs, who accept the invitation by signing the Free and Informed Consent Form, will participate on the research. The Brazilian students will be randomly divided, into two groups, the first one will have access to VLE and videoconference about the theme and will take the training in a low fidelity simulator, and the second will have access to VLE and videoconference about the theme and will participate in a videoconference with the transmission of a training carried out with the high fidelity simulator. The Portuguese students will have access to the VLE, videoconference about the theme and will perform the training in a high fidelity simulator. Literature review will be carried out through integrative review. The contents about the theme will be built upon the VLE Moodle, set, translated and culturally adapted to Portuguese from Portugal. After watching the videoconference the students will make their assessments answering a questionnaire. The Brazilian students who watch the training in high fidelity simulator by videoconference will respond to a second questionnaire regarding the use of videoconference as a teaching tool. The questionnaires used will be translated and culturally adapted to Portuguese from Portugal. Learning results of both the students who had access to low and high fidelity simulation and the videoconference's training transmission with high fidelity simulation will be evaluated by a learning evaluation questionnaire and systematized observation in activity simulated in laboratory, with contents valuated and culturally adapted by Brazilian and Portuguese experts. The learning of students submitted to the low fidelity simulated training will be compared to the learning of students submitted to high fidelity training transmitted via videoconference, characterizing this step of the project as post-test experimental study. The statistical analysis will be done using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), version 15.0. (AU)
