Abstract

Project Management authors have suggested that traditional models and approaches may be ineffective when applied to non-traditional product development processes, carried out in environments where technology, product features, and competitive requirements are innovative. As result new approaches had been published, entitled as Lean development, Iterative and Flexible product development. In common, theirs authors point a set of principles and guidelines to assist project managers. It's a new area and the researchers have to understand the implications and way to use them, in deep. Despite of the recognized importance of this theme, the concepts aren't sufficiently mature to be used and there are not objective evidences of these new practices usefulness. This project aims two original contributions. First, to develop a new instrument (a protocol) capable to assess the agility level of the project management practices. In follow, to use this tool to investigate the relationship between the level of agility and the performance, on innovation projects conducted by Sao Paulo State enterprises. The proposal is to verify this correlation on different kind of enterprises whose projects are innovative, as new product with newness content and new technology projects. The project uses a mix of research methods as: systematic bibliographical review, multi-case studies and survey. The results will be evaluated using qualitative and quantitative techniques. The deliverables will be: a) a theoretical scale to assess the agility level and a protocol to used-it in practice; b) an assessment of the relationship of agility level and performance in innovation projects at Sao Paulo State enterprises. Two contribution for the area. (AU)
