Abstract

This project has as main objective the study of the socialization processes necessary for the acquisition of conditions for the political engagement, considering the analysis of the history of the leaderships from a socio-professional group with outstanding tradition of political engagement in the Brazilian society: the stell workers from São Paulo's ABC region. Starting from the principle that attitudes and behaviors regarding the events of political order are passed from a generation to the other in different spaces of primary and secondary socialization. Considering that, the understanding of what could be identified as " vocation " for the political militancy passes by the detailed analysis of the way as the individuals were socialized in relation to the " world of the politics ".Such analysis, in this research, will focus in the processes that allowed that certain individuals became the managing board of the main Brazilian union of the present time, the Union of the Steelworkers of ABC (SMABC), in the decades of 1970 and 1990. For that, it is the goal constitute a prosopographic database on the directors of that entity, with the objetive to apprehend the characteristics and internal dynamics of such group. And later, a study of biographical character through which we will explore with details the processes of political socialization lived by the subject of the research, that they will be divided in sub-groups that represent different possible "socio-political destinies" for these militant ones, what can vary from an ascension situation in the parties politics to the total political desengagement. It should also be highlighted, that the research pronounces with a reflection about the modifications occurred in the Brazilian's post-military period political scenario, above all with the phenomenon of reconstruction of the directing elites that made possible the ascension of political actors originated from the working class - with history linked to left political movements - to the spheres of the power of State.
