Abstract

The objective of the present study is to analyse and to compare the effects of early and physiological estrogen deficiency as well as the effect of hormone replacement and aerobic physical training on the cardiovascular control in these two situations. A total of 120 Wistar female rats will be distributed into two major groups: a group of young female rats (10 weeks old) and another group of old ones (70 weeks old). Each group will be further divided into three subgroups: group of sham rats (vehicle); group of ovariectomized rats without hormone reposition (vehicle); and group of ovariectomized rats submitted to estrogen replacement. Half of the animals in each subgroup will be submitted to aerobic physical training through swimming. All the animals will be also submitted to experimental procedures for recording arterial pressure (AP) and heat rate (HR) so that the cardiovascular autonomic function can be assessed. Such an assessment will be carried out by means of different approaches: study of tonic autonomic control of HR by administering methylatropine and atenolol, analysis of HR and AP variability, assessment of baroreflex sensitivity, dosage of circulating catecholamines and expression of beta-adrenergic receptors. Moreover, all the animals will be submitted to functional study of the vascular reactivity in the coronary bed. (AU)
