Detecting risk of osteoporosis using digital dental images in patients with systemic sclerosis and osteoarthritis

Abstract

Digital radiographic systems have been constantly developed and updated and it is often necessary to assess their performance, particularly, in determining the length of endodontic files in order that the endodontist has clinical benefits in choosing the best parameters that can be used. The objective of this study is to compare the efficacy in determining the length of endodontic files in the digital image system Dürr-VistaScan, using different parameters of image quality - spatial and contrast resolutions. Forty extracted single-root human teeth will be X-rayed with endodontic files ISO sizes 06, 10 and 15 inserted in their canals. The images of the VistaScan system will be tested with the spatial resolutions of 10 and 25 line pairs (lp)/mm and contrast resolutions of 8 and 16 bits. Six calibrated examiners, three radiologists and three endodontists, will carry out measurements using the DBSWIN-imaging software. The data collected will be submitted to analysis of variance to compare the differences between the averages of the evaluators, with the different parameters of image quality, and the actual measurements of endodontic instruments (gold standard).
