Abstract

The Corumbatai watershed is the unique source of water supply for 8 municipalities and a population about 400,000 inhabitants. Due to the high level of the anthropic actions in the region, there is an increased interest in understand all processes involving the utilization of the local natural resources by the research institutions in the neighborhood, specially the UNESP, branch of Rio Claro. Considering that most of the information about the watershed were scattered over different databank of those research institutions, one of the practical result was the development of the ENVIRONMENTAL ATLAS OF THE CORUMBATAI WATERSHED (ATLAS-COR), sponsored by FAPESP and available at the IGCE/UNESP´s site in 2000.The second and actualized version of the ATLAS-COR, including new tools is available since 2003, also sponsored by FAPESP. This version can be seen at http://ceapla.rc.unesp.br/atlas/. In that moment the Relator´s project ended his relatory with the phrase: "It is important to point out that the content must be continuously actualized, complemented and validate." Five years later will be necessary a significative actualization and implementation of the ATLAS-COR system, enlarging its possibilities to support municipalities, development agencies and students.
