Influence of the configuration and the surface of the implants in the osseointegration and adherence of microrganismos

Abstract

The aim of this study will be to evaluate and compare the repair of the bone tissue around porous surface cylindrical implants with rough surface threaded implants, both of titanium, by means of histological and histomorphometric analyses. The strength fixation of these implants to the bone tissue will be measured using a digital torque gauge. The influence of the configuration and the surface of implants in the microorganism adherence will also be evaluated. Porous surface cylindrical implants will be made by means of powder metallurgy technique, and some of them will be submitted to metallographic analysis to evaluate the amount, interconnection and area of presents pores. The rough surface threaded implants will be acquired from the odontological market. Afterwards the implants will be placed in thirty rabbits, which will receive two implants, being one of each type, in the right and left tibia. Ten animals, selected randomly, will be sacrificed 04, 08 and 12 weeks after the surgery. For each sacrificed period, five fragments contained the implants will be submitted to histological and histomorphometric analysis and five to torque measurements. The evaluation will allow comparing the speed of formation of the new bone and the contact area in the bone-implant interface in the different time and types of implants and its influence on strength fixation of the same ones. The data of histomorphometric analysis and torque measurements will be submitted to ANOVA test and TUKEY test. The data of microorganism adherence will be submitted to Kruskal Wallis test. (AU)
