Abstract

The treatment of peripheral facial paralysis presents still modest results in medical practice and the study of neurotrophic substances is an interesting possibility for improving this framework. The GCSF (granulocyte colony-stimulating factor or colony-stimulating factor 3) has been considered a major candidate as neurotrophic factors, due to its clinical safety has been established. Experimental evidence of the role of GSCF like a neurotrophic factors are already available in experimental models of brain injury, injury of spinal cord and peripheral nerve injury. In our project we propose test the influence of systemic administration of GCSF (20 g intraperitoneally for 5 days) after acute injury of the facial nerve (4 weeks of observation) in non-human primate model (Callitrix n=17). We will be considered behavior and histological evaluations for this. (AU)
