Abstract

The purpose of this study is to verify the motor development and the somatic growing and the effects of Physical Activity lessons provided by major professionals during the first year of elementary school. Children enrolled in the first grade of elementary school will be examined regarding their motor development, using the Test of Gross Motor Develolment (TGMD-2) (Ulrich, 1995), somatic growing, and the motor activity level. Half of the children will be enrolled in Physical Activity activities, taught by a Physical Education teacher, and the other half will participate of the activities taught by the first grade teacher. At the beginning, half, and end of the school year, children will be assessed by the TGMD-2 test and data regarding somatic growing and physical activity level will be obtained. In doing so, it will be possible to verify if regular lectures of Physical Activity, taught by specific professional, promote changes in motor development and the its relation to somatic growing and physical activity level of these children during the first grade of elementary school.
