Abstract

Contents related to the Information Treatment section (PCN, 1997), which are indicated as integrating part of basic school curriculum, still do not have enough research. It is possible to realize the need of deep researches concerning experimental focus and, consequently, the association among statistical, probabilistic and combinatory concepts for a meaningful apprenticeship. Teachers, who participate in an in-service and pre-service training, need to access new teaching strategies and singular approaches of basic concepts within that area, in order to improve knowledge. In this project we make a choice: learn by doing, in order to improve changing in their teaching practice. The questions we intend to answer in this research: Which factors affect the teaching and learning process involving the stochastic reasoning? Which factors should rule in-service and pre-service teachers training, concerning the Information Treatment section (statistics, probabilities and combinatory)? Which contributions to form the concepts related to Information Treatment can be identified by using a computational environment? This research shall be performed under some principles of research-action, since one of the objectives is to help teachers to think over factors interfering in the teaching and learning processes related to the Information Treatment section, and to organize themselves in communities dedicated to shaping experiences for themselves and their students. Initially it shall be done a study diagnosing the in-service teachers' conceptions and practices. With the collected results, it is intended to build didactic sequences to work with these teachers and to help them in the construction, by themselves, of others didactic sequences which will be used in their classroom, being able to analyze the results obtained.
