Abstract

Our proposal is to search in the SUCEST data bank for genes that are related to DNA repair of plant genome. Plants, as all living organisms, are subject to environmental and even endogenous aggressions to their genetic material and have several repair processes that cope with the damages introduced into their genes. These help the plant cells to evade from the deleterious effects of these damages that may cause cell death and mutations. The high conservation of DNA repair genes in eukaryotes and the existence of several human and yeast genes well characterized make this DATA MINING project viable. Although different strategies may be defined by the whole SUCEST genome group later, our work may start by simply constructing a data bank of these known DNA repair related genes in the lab (mainly nucleotide excision repair, base excision repair and mismatch genes) and start the search of the EST data that will be generated in the SUCEST project (in which we are also planned to be involved).
