Mechanical evaluation of two types of three-dimensional plate used in the treatment of the mandibular angle fracture

Abstract

Fractures of the mandibular angle present the highest complication incidence of all mandible fractures. Several fixation systems have been studied for treatment of those fractures. Tridimensional plates present mechanical adequate characteristics to treat angle fractures via intraoral approach, although their use is still restricted and further studies are need. This project will evaluation two different types of tridimensional plates made in Brazil (Engimplan Ltda) used to fixate angle fractures. Polyurethane replicas of human mandible simulating simple angle fracture will be use for biomechanical testing. The better position to apply the plates will also be studied. (AU)
