Abstract

The concept of vulnerability developed after the Aids epidemic is potentially applicable to other social and health phenomena in which an intervention is required. Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI) are considered adverse events related to healthcare assistance and may occur at any health service, including Primary Health Units (PHU). Appropriate programmatic action should provide protection against HAI to individuals who receive care at PHU. There are no studies focused on programmatic vulnerability evaluation related to HAI. The main objective of this research is to evaluate the programmatic vulnerability to HAI in the PHU environment in the Region of Butantã , city of Sao Paulo. The study will be developed in two phases: I) evaluation of the programmatic vulnerability to HAI, and identification of possible intervention methods for its reduction; II) development of standards to categorize programmatic vulnerability to HAI and development of methodologies and indicators for its evaluation. In phase I, interviews with PHU managers and local audits will take place according to structured guidelines. In phase II, data obtained in phase I and qualification of proposals by experts will be used. (AU)
