Analysis of the trace elements in bitches breast tumors

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the concentration of chemical elements Calcium, Iron, Copper and Zinc found in breast tissue of female dogs and to correlate them with its histopathological grading of breast tumors according to World Health Organization (WHO) and TNM System prognosis of life. Will be collected 30 samples of breast tissue to be divided into three groups of 10 samples each: G1 composed of healthy breast tissue; G2 and G3 composed of complex carcinomas and tubulopapilifere carcinomas respectively, because they are the two most common breast tumors in our routine. Fragments of the tumors will be harvested during the surgical procedures of elective mastectomies performed during routine veterinary hospital. After harvest, some of the material is processed for histopathological examination and the other part will be lyophilized for later analysis by fluorescence X-ray energy dispersive (EDXRF). Numerical data will be submitted to Kruskall-Wallis with post-Dunn test for nonparametric measures. (AU)
