Abstract

The water that supplies the city of Alta Floresta, in the extreme north of Mato Grosso, is captured in the Mariana basin which is a high degree of degradation caused by unsustainable agricultural activities. The aim of this study is to assess the level of degradation of natural resources from the productive systems adopted by farmers seeking the recovery and conservation thereof. The research will be conducted through a case study to obtain wide and detailed knowledge of agroecosystems that consist of secondary data collection and primary data which consist of: i) collecting samples of soil and water to assess their quality; ii) conducting semi-structured questionnaires to farmers employing open and closed questions as well as in-depth interviews, iii) participatory meetings to validate the data collected for producers, as subjects of action, present problems and paths to recovery the catchment in a sustainable manner. The data collected will be tabulated and processed statistically using descriptive statistics, multivariate analysis, multiple correspondence factor and Ascendant Hierarchical Classification, to compare and evaluate the level of environmental degradation, the logic of operating production facilities and their impacts on natural resources, as well as the alternatives to adoption of sustainable activities for recovery Mariana basin.
