Stratigraphic relationship and Paleogeography of the Upper Cretaceous in the Bauru, Sanfranciscana and Parecis basins


Alluvial deposits built and / or reworked by braided river environments were characterized with a variety of weather conditions throughout geologic history. The potential for preservation of continental deposits depends excessively high rate of subsidence of the basin, associated with large sediment supply. The Upper Cretaceous rocks forming groups Bauru (Bauru Basin), Parecis (Parecis Basin), Mata da Corda and Urucuia (Sanfranciscana Basin) have characteristics that suggest deposition in alluvial systems dominated by rivers under conditions of arid to semiarid. The facies analysis and architectural elements of these deposits, based on petrographic, geochemical and paleopedogenéticos, will assess more accurately the processes related to sedimentation, tectonics and climate during its evolution. The expected results as a product of this analysis are models that consider the depositional basins Bauru, and Sanfranciscana Parecis basis for establishing correlations and paleogeography of the Upper Cretaceous portion of central and southeastern Brazil. Among the expected highlights are the scientific contributions to a better understanding of stratigraphic architecture of the basins Bauru, Sanfranciscana and Parecis, as well as identification of geological phenomena responsible for the origin and evolution of the sequences of the three basins.
