Abstract

The objective of this project is to evaluate the influence of maternal vaccination against BVDV in cell-mediated immune response in the colostrum and blood of neonate calves using the following assays: quantification of specific antibodies and cytokines by radioimmunoassay; detection of CD4 and CD8 lymphocyte populations and counting of gama delta TCR cells by flow cytometry; total leukocyte counts in blood and colostrum by automatic count and direct microscopy, respectively; differentiation of blood leukocytes by morphology in blood smears. Calves will be divided into two experimental groups of five animals each: group 1 (G1) calves fed colostrum of cows not vaccinated against BVDV, and group 2 (G2), calves fed colostrum of cows vaccinated against BVDV. Data distribution will be analyzed by Kolgomorov-Smirnov test. Analysis of variance will be used for data with parametric distribution; means will be compared by Duncan test. Variables with non-parametric distribution will be compared by Mann-Whitney test. (AU)
