Response of cutaneous lymphoma to chemotherapic therapy in face of immunohistochemical findings and MDR-1 gene expression

Abstract

Because of the improvement in domestic animal healthcare and the progresses occurred in veterinary medicine, it is now necessary to study the diseases more deeply and to establish clinical and laboratorial routines to provide correct diagnosis and to help in the evaluation of prognosis. In order to elucidate doubts in veterinary oncology, the present study intends to evaluate the efficiency of apoptosis and proliferation index and of MDR-1 gene expression before and after chemotherapy on the establishment of prognosis in cases of canine cutaneous lymphoma. Dogs with diagnosis of cutaneous lymphoma will be submitted to clinical staging and anatomical classification by histopathology. After these results, samples will be submitted to immunofenotyping with anti-CD3, anti-CD79a, anti-caspase-3 and anti-MIB-1 antibodies and expression of MDR-1 will be verified by PCR. All the dogs will be submitted to chemotherapy and evaluation of response to this association and the results. (AU)
